About Nkomazi Youth in Action
A registered non-profit organisation developing the young people of Nkomazi West since 2008.
A youth-led centre with one purpose.
The sole purpose of Nkomazi Youth in Action is to serve the developmental needs of the youth in the community of Schoemansdal and the neighbouring villages of Nkomazi West.
The organisation grew out of the young people themselves. They saw the gap, recognised the need for change, and believed that they are the change they want to see in their community, so they took responsibility to teach, transform and grow the potential of the young people around them.
By tackling unemployment, lack of skills and information, HIV/AIDS, teenage pregnancy and substance abuse, the centre provides reliable information, computer and internet services, career guidance, entrepreneurship support, job preparation, life skills workshops and referrals.

Key moments in the centre's history.
The centre is founded
Nkomazi Youth in Action is established on 21 January 2008 and starts out at Thembalethu Home Based Care, with eleven board members and eight personnel.
A new base at Way Inn
The centre moves to rented premises at Mr D Shongwe's business place at Way Inn, where it stays until 2019.
A permanent site
The centre secures a permanent site at stand 1635, R570 Jeppes Reef Road.
From renting towards owning
The centre receives funding from Sasol to build its own offices, a breakthrough from renting to owning a structure, and later in the year Sasol funds digital equipment. From 2020 the centre also leases premises from Lugebhuta High School.
Growing the movement
With support from the centre, the Jeppes Reef development centre is launched on 2 June 2025.

A board of directors governs the centre, and a small team runs its programmes day to day.

The board supports the project and makes sure the centre runs smoothly, plans effectively, and has adequate resources that are managed well. The centre began with eleven board members and eight personnel, and today has six board members and five personnel.
